Monday April 29

Slept so good. Pillows are the best thing. Well, that and being warm and dry.
Up at 730. Made coffee and had hiker box breakfast of bagel, peanut butter with honey, with slivered almond sprinkles. Wondering how we're going to get back to dickey's gap. Hitching is not our best skill..we'll get more practice...
We got our stuff together and walked down to the road. After many people sped up a I stuck out my thumb, I finally stood in the intersection. Some very sweet older lady stopped and apologetically asked us to get in the bed of the very nice Ford truck. We explained that that's where we preferred to ride so as not to dirty up and stink up the inside...she said her husband (deceased) always picked folks up, but pit them in the back..we told her that was a good rule!
On the trail at 10, (516.1). Lunch at trimpi shelter (520.0). I took a break at a gravel road then set a new land speed record for the 1 mile to the next landmark: 15 minutes (that's 4 mph) of course I did some ski jogging down the hills, but it was fun...having a light pack is awesome! (hardly any food left). To partnership shelter(530.6) at 5pm. This is the shelter that's famous for having a shower and phone and pizza hut delivers!  1 large Hawaiian pizza and a 2 L bottle of sierra mist (no caffeine) was on the way when zag arrived.
The Virginia creepers tented at the shelter. We hung out a bit at dinner.they have us some leftover salad and lime vinaigrette dressing. Kraft dressing was really good! They brought a book of short stories with them and someone read one aloud each night. I thought that sounded like a great idea.
To the relax inn tomorrow(542.2)
Pics: pine tree flower; outside and inside of  nice privy at trimpi shelter.
Trash can is full of duff (leaves). You throw in a handful on top of your poop. That's how composting privys work. ; zag in the shelter; the lovely valley we
walked around today; sunset over Mt Rogers head quarters
